Generator  workshop

A project that aims to invite participants interested in video and experimental film to engage in active learning and practice of video production and related disciplines. Encouraging artists to develop collaborative projects.

The workshop is scheduled for two weeks starting September 15th to 29th, followed by four weeks of post production.

Projects will be funded by Medrar and Pro Helvetia, and the final productions will be screened during the 6th Cairo Video Festival, November 5th 2014.

The workshop will be mentored by Christoph Oertli from Switzerland and Mohamed Abdelkarim from Egypt.

Christoph Oertli

Oertli has been experimenting with video, video installations, documentary videos, video for dance and theater, since 1995. He was an artist in residence in Cairo 2006, and pursued collaboration on several occasions with artist from Egypt (among several others) on video projects of interdisciplinary structure that we find appropriate to bring in the collaborative energy of several artists through our workshop. His concepts usually tackle self/space exploration and impressions, which we think can be an essential approach for revitalizing the lost sense of self-awareness here and now. Christoph also pursues a parallel teaching career at HSLU Lucerne/Switzerland, that we regard as indication of instructional abilities to communicate with and guide rising artists. Mohamed Abdelkarim An active contemporary Egyptian artist. He has conducted several workshops. Abdelkarim contributes greatly to the variety of artistic languages emerging from Egypt. Among other places, his works have been included in the 98 Weeks Bazaar at the Thessaloniki Biennial in 2011. He took part in the inaugural interdisciplinary art study program at Home Workspace, Ashkal Alwan, in Beirut, Lebanon. Recently participant at Sharjah Biennial 2013, and Jogja Biennale XII Indonesia, and part from “In Search of Europe” project in Berlin art space Kunstraum Kreuzberg/Bethanien For further information: http://www.mohamedabdelkarim.com/ * Workshop will be instructed in English.
