بعد أن كانت الحروب الباردة تستخدم بين الأنظمة قديما كوسيلة للبقاء، أصبحت مرجعا يطبق على الشعوب من خلال وسائل إعلام سمع-بصرية ترعاها الأنظمة لتعمل على وضع الجمهور نصب أعينها بل وتحاول أيضا ضمه إلى صفوفها عن طريق التكرار في القول والرسائل البصرية التي يتم تخزﻳﻨﻬﺎ تلقائيا في عقل الجمهور. التأثيرات الناتجة عن هذه الممارسات ربما تتفاوت من شخص لآخر وفقا لميوله ودرجة وعيه، فإما أن ينساق أو أن يرفض أو أن يتخبط عقله بين التأويلات المختلفة للمعلومات المطروحة أمامه و التي تختلف تبعا لأهواء مصادرها ، أو يأخذ القرار الأكثر صعوبة وهو نقاشه لذاته.
في هذه التجربة يعمل علاء عبد الحميد على مشاركة المتلقي العمل الفني وجعل عملية المشاهدة متبادلة بينهما، حيث أن ذلك الفعل ناتج عن اكتساب الأعمال صفة الحيوية والتي تجعلها تختلف ﺑﺈﺧﺘﻻﻑ ﻣﺤﻴﻄﻬﺎ، وذلك نتيجة لإكتشاف تجارب بصرية تعتمد على قوانين انعكاس الضوء على المرايا وارتداده إلى عدسة العين.

Visual Lab rats
Long after cold wars have been deployed by regimes to assure their survival, such wars have become a contemporary reference for visual and audio media. Governments utilize this process to monitor their citizens. Furthermore, citizens are lured into cooperating with these systems by means of repetition, either through recurrent images or audio messages. Such messages are stored in the minds of the public. Results of such practices are variable from one person to the other, in accordance to his/her interests and degree of awareness. Accordingly, a person follows, rejects or alters between different interpretations of the given information. However, he/she might have to resort to the toughest choice after all, which is self-doubt.
In this project, Alaa Abd El-Hamid, attempts to incorporate the viewer and enable cross-visibility. This quality results from the pieces acquiring liveliness, which in return, alters the visual according to the surrounding. The project stems from Abd El-Hamid’s research on the rules of reflection, and ipso facto the perceived image.
