A call for all Egyptian artists below 35 to participate in the ninth round of Roznama competition and exhibition for contemporary visual art to be held in October 2023.

Roznama is an annual competition and exhibition for contemporary visual art for Egyptian artists , its ninth edition is organised by Medrar for Contemporary Art and ARD Art Institution.The competition aims to encourage creative contemporary practices of young artists below the age of 35 by highlighting and awarding the outstanding genuine works, beyond their discipline or medium.

 Prizes 

• • Artist in Residency for 1 months in Steigenberger Resort in Hurghada provided by ADD Art*

• • Artist in Residency for 3 months at Tahrir Culture Centre provided by Tahrir Culture Centre**

• • Art Residency in Germany awarded by Goethe Institut – Cairo***

• • Artist in Residency for 1 month in Switzerland provided by Pro Helvetia Cairo – Swiss Arts Council****

• • Language scholarship in an acknowledged institution in Egypt for the equivalent of up to 30,000 EGP provided by Ubuntu Art Gallery 

• • 10,000 EGP cash prize provided by Gypsum Gallery. 

• • 10,000 EGP in purchase prize provided by Alwan Bookstore.

*ADD Art hopes to launch a pilot residency program at ALDAU development’s steigenberger and the Art promenade in Hurghada, with the first beneficiary being one of Roznama’s winning candidates. The program would include travel, full-board accommodation, a dedicated and equipped studio space, documentation as well as access to other facilities based on artists’ needs.

****The Residency covers all logistic expenses, such as flight tickets, accommodation and per diem.

*****The Prize consists of use of CIC print production facilities for the equivalent of 5000 EGP. This includes photographic inkjet, Riso or silk screen printing, use of analogue darkroom and scanning equipment.

• • The applicant is allowed to apply with only one project / one application form. If the applicant sends more than one form all submitted projects will be rejected.

• • The submitted artwork projects should be produced during 2021–2023.

• • Participants cannot be older than 35 years of age as of October 2023.

• • The participant must be an Egyptian national.

• • Roznama does not accept any artwork previously exhibited in any Egyptian competitions or contests.

• • Roznama does not accept graduation projects.   

• • The competition organizers have the right to select the artworks and projects in accordance with the exhibition space and the facilities available within the space. 

• • Artworks, regardless of their category, are given a maximum space of 4×4 metres.

• • The competition organizers assign the jury committee. The participants’ selection and the winners’ selection processes are held by the jury only. Neither the organizers, institutions nor partners will be involved in these processes.

• • For unfinished/in-progress works, the artist must attach all supporting files and the final visuals of the project.

• • The jury committee members will be announced after the opening of the exhibition in October 2023.

• • Only applicants whose artworks are selected to participate in the exhibition will be notified via email, no later than 15 August 2023.

• • Under the Egyptian Law n.82 of 2002 on the Intellectual property, Medrar and ARD are entitled to use any visual documentation (either photos or videos), and part of the artworks of the participants to produce promotional material for Roznama 9th competition and exhibition.

• • The exhibition will be inaugurated on 14 October 2023 and will last until 15 November 2023. All participants shall receive their works immediately after the exhibition closure. The organizers are entitled to dispose of their artworks after that date.

• • Roznama accepts visual artworks such as painting, drawing, sculpture, photography, installation art, video and moving images, digital art, interactive art, performance art, sound art.

• • Roznama management team does not assume any breach of intellectual property rights in any participant work. Participants must take into account the fact that they are required to obtain permission in case they are presenting any artwork borrowed from a third party.

• • After notifying the participating artists, artworks must be delivered in conformity with the work sent in the application form. In case of non-compliance with the deadlines of delivery, the participation is void. 

• • In case of applying incomplete / in-progress work, the artist will be responsible for all artwork execution and implementation details in coordination with the exhibition curator.

• • A participation request must comply with the guidelines and conditions of participation above.

• • The Google Drive folder should be named as follows: “Name_Last Name_Roznama 9” example “Mohamed_Mahmoud_ Roznama 9” and the files inside it are as follows: “Name_Last Name_File name” example “Mohamed_Mahmoud_ID / Work Details / Work Video”

• • Keep in mind that the uploaded files to the Google Drive should remain online until October and should not be deleted 

• • In the case of video works, the file should be high quality.

• • Attach 3 different HD photos of the artwork.

• • Attach a photo of your National ID (front and back) and send it with the application form.

• • Artworks sent without filling out the application form will not be considered.
